Should I trade Brian Roberts and Johnny Damon for Carlos Lee and Placido Polanco?

I would certainly make this deal, as there is no downside. You are definately getting better players in this deal, and getting rid of Damon is probably the best part. You can always keep tabs on the waiver wire for 2B, especailly with the young guys you have on the roster who might struggle later on.
